Devoción

Devoción is one of those coffee shops that feels very NYC while still having something different about it. The café is all about Colombian coffee, using beans sourced directly from Colombia, and you can definitely tell coffee is taken seriously here. Luckily, you don’t have to be a coffee expert to appreciate it—I’m certainly not analyzing tasting notes before class.

Drinks

The lattes here are excellent. The espresso has a stronger, richer flavor than your average chain coffee, but it’s still smooth enough that it doesn’t feel overwhelming. I’ve tried both hot and iced, and they’re equally good depending on whether NYC has decided it’s winter or summer that day.

If you actually know your coffee, they also have drip coffee, pour-overs, cold brew, and espresso, so there’s plenty beyond the latte section.

Food

The food selection is more on the coffee-and-a-pastry side than full breakfast. They have a rotating selection of croissants, cookies, and other baked goods, which are perfect if you want something small with your drink. The pastries are good, but the coffee is definitely the reason you’re coming here.

Atmosphere

Devoción has a cool, slightly industrial feel that fits right into NYC. Depending on the location, there’s a good amount of seating, and it’s an easy place to meet a friend or sit with your laptop for a bit. It feels polished without crossing into the territory of being too fancy to actually relax in.

Devoción is a great pick when you want really good quality coffee. The Colombian beans make it stand out from the endless latte options around the city, and the spaces are nice enough to make you want to stay awhile. Simple, reliable, and definitely worth trying at least once—even if your coffee expertise begins and ends with “this tastes good.”
